Single permit for travel to SAARC countries:
The SAARC nations are considering a single permit system for the regional block for easy movement of goods and people. A draft terms and conditions for the same are likely to be finalised in a week.
Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives were absent from the meeting. The plan says permits would be issued by the competent authority of the respective government after verification of all the required documents. According to the plan permits for passenger and cargo transportation will be valid for one year and will be for multiple entries. The permits would be renewed every year 'subject to a maximum of five years'. Any vehicle carried to any other country must pass through immigration checkpoints on the routes authorised by the member nation.
Protocols discussed among the member nations include details of vehicles, certificates the vehicles should carry and pre-verified 'jumbo passport' of the crew of each vehicle. ......
