The Great Himalaya Trail (GHT)

The Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) is one of the world's longest and highest trekking routes. It runs below the tallest mountains on Earth and takes you through remote villages, green valleys, dry high plains, and stunning landscapes. In Nepal, the GHT stretches from Taplejung in the east to Humla and Darchula in the west.

Two Routes to Choose:

In Nepal, the GHT splits into two paths. Mac Treks and Tours Nepal, led by owner Narayan Poudel, can help you pick the best route for your adventure:

1. The High Route

  • Average altitude: 3,000–5,000 meters
  • Offers amazing views of Nepal's tallest peaks
  • Passes through very remote villages
  • Requires crossing passes as high as 6,146 meters
  • Takes about 120 days to finish

2. Mixture of High & Low Route

  • Average altitude: 1,500–3,000 meters
  • Experience Nepal's diverse cultures
  • Highest pass: Thorangla Pass (5,416 meters)
  • Takes about 100 days to finish
  • Guesthouses and homestay options available

Key Details

  • Both routes can be split into smaller treks
  • Options for camping or teahouse stays
  • High Route requires advanced fitness and mountain experience
  • Mixed Route is more accessible but still adventurous
