Rara Lake:
Rara Lake is the largest lake of Nepal, situated in Mugu district in the far western region of Nepal, near district-headquarter Gam Ghadi and Talcha airport and about 3/4 days of walking from Jumla. (Rara: where the goat (Ram) was burnt (Raa) The length of the lake is 5 kilometers and it is 2 kilometers wide. The surface is around 8 square kilometer, the perimeter 9 kilometer, the altitude around 3060 meter and the depth is 167 meter.
This beautiful high altitude lake is surrounded by alpine meadow of forest of pine, juniper and spruce, whilst in the back ground you can view the magnificent capped peak of the Himalayas.
Phoksundo Lake:
Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake in Nepal, offers stunning beauty. Considered sacrosanct by the Dopla locals, it is praised for its aquamarine greenish blue color. No aquatic life in the lake pronounces that the water is crystal clear. Called by the seasoned travellers the jewel of Dolpo, Phoksundo Lake gives refreshing experience to the eyes. Ringed by tall snow-capped mountains, view of Phoksundo Lake is an extremely satisfying experience.
Dolpo, a remote area, is located in the north east part of Nepal. The timeworn place has had close relations with Tibet. Trekkers were allowed to Dolpo as late as 1990. However, to remain far from the limelight has its own benefits. Dolpo has been able to preserve its wonderful beauty. Trekkers can soak in the wonderful scenic view of Phoksundo Lake, and, at the same time, enjoy the intriguing culture of Ringmo village which is a mix of Nepalese and Tibetan influences. The best time to do Rara and Phoksundo Lake trekking is from April to October. Along the journey,we will have unique cultural experience with the stunning views of Dhaulagiri range,Kaniroba,Gurja Himal and many different peaks of far western Himalayas.
