Lhasa Ganden Samye Trekking

Day by day Itinerary
Day 01 - Fly to Lhasa or arrival by train from China part.

Once you arrive at Gonggar airport or Lhasa Train Station, an easy one hour or half hour drive will take you to your final destination Lhasa city. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing and exploring some of the many sights in Lhasa.

Day 02 - Guided sightseeing tour in Lhasa.

In the morning you will take an easy visit to Jokhang Temple. This temple is the most revered shrine in all of Tibet and is constantly bustling with devout worshippers. Then you will get opportunity to shop in Bharkhor, the crowded central market of Lhasa. In the afternoon you will visit in Sera Monastery, a fifteenth century sprawl of golden roofs and whitewashed walls. This well preserved monastery is located just a few miles North of Lhasa and is home to several hundred monks. Its famous debating activities are happening 3-4pm quite regularly every day. Transfer back to the Hotel.

Day 03 - Guided sightseeing tour in Lhasa.

First you will be taken to visit Potala Palace which is main attraction of Tibet. This palace is Lhasa's cardinal landmark and is a wonder of Eastern architecture. Your first site of this massive structure will be a magical moment remembered for years to come. It has been a palace since the fifth or sixth century and was once home to the Dalai Lama. After that your Lhasa sightseeing tour ended with a visit to the Drepung Monastery. Once the world's largest monastery, housing 10,000 monks, Drepung monastery lies hidden in rocky ridges just beyond the city. Surprisingly much of the building was left untouched throughout so many hundred of years. Transfer back to the Hotel.

Day 04 - Drive to Ganden Monastery and trek to Yama Do.5 to 6 hrs.

First we drive to Ganden Monastery takes about an hour which was founded in 1409 by Je Tsongkapa, the founder of the Gelupka sect. After visit Ganden monastery, trek begins at the highest point on the Ganden Kora. From here we walk along a saddle trail then we pass through ancient Hepu village. After an hour reach Ani Pangong, a small nunnery then climb steadily for an hour through marshy meadows to Yama Do. Overnight at tented Camp.

Day 05 - Treko to Tsotup Chu valley.5 hrs.

After breakfast, we walk gradually up to the Shug-La pass (5250m) takes about 2 hours. After crossing Shug-la pass we walk down to the valley called Tsotup Chu. Then cross Tsotup Chu. Nomad herders with their herd of yaks, goat and sheep can be found here.We can set up a comfortable camp here.Total 5 hours trekking. Overnight at tented Camp.

Day 06 - Trek to Herder's Camp.5 hrs.

Today we follow the Tsotup Chu down through its tributary and head towards the Chitu La Pass(5100m)which is not so difficult to reach on the top and marked by several cairns.A short steep descend will bring you into a basin with three small lakes. We find a perfect campsite in the herder's Camps.Overnight at Tented Camp.

Day 07 - Trek to Yamalung.5 to 6 hrs.

Today the trail is easy and goes through forest of shrubs and rhododendrons for 3 hours. The trail winds through a series of meadows before reaching Gen Do, a place with a ruined stone structure. The forest thins rapidly and we reach the first permanent village of Chantan (4020m) after leaving Hebu. In an hour we arrive at Yamalung Valley. Yamalung Hermitage is another an hour steep up from the valley. Overnight at Tented Camp.

Day 08 - Trek to Samye Monastery and drive to Tsedang.3 to 4 hours.

From Yamalung Valley takes 3 to 4 hours to Samye. We passed the villages of Nyango, Wangon and Pisha. From the Pisha the entire lower valley of Samye and the golden aspires of Samye Monastery can be seen. Now Samye monastery is the final destination. After spending few times at monastery, we drive to Tsedang, where we visit Yumbulakhang Palace. Evening provided a good hotel for accommodation. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 09 - Drive to Gyantse (3950m) 350km.

You cross Kamba La (4795m) and Karo La (5045) via beautiful Yamdrok-tso lake.After few hours' drive pass the beautiful valley and colorful Tibetan village arrives in Gyantse. O/N at Hotel.

Day 10 - Drive to Shigatse(3900m) 90km.

Early morning you visit some old places in Gyantse then start our journey to Shigatse takes about 2/3 hours only. Shigastse is second largest city of Tibet where you get a good opportunity for both relaxation and exploration. Here you visit Tashilhunpo Monastery which is one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet. O/N at Hotel.

Day 11 - Drive to Kerong border(3050m)375km.

After breakfast, drive to Kerong border takes about 9-10 hours. On the way, you will visit beautiful Pekutso Lake and stunning view of Mt Shishapangma. After arrive in Kerong, transfer to the Hotel. O/N at Hotel.

Day 12 - Drive to Kathmandu (1350m) 250km.

Drive from Kerong to Kathmandu takes about 7-8 hours. After Immigration clearance of Chinese and Nepalese Immigration at border continue drive to Kathmandu. Transfer to the Hotel.
