Nepal and Bhutan Trekking

Day by day Itinerary
Day 01 - Arrival Day in Kathmandu.

We start the trip on arrival at Kathmandu with airport pick up service. Since no activities are planned on day one, you can arrive at your own time. A briefing of the trip will be given by the tour/trek guide.

Day 02 - Full day sightseeing program in Kathmandu city.

Full day sightseeing program in Kathmandu city. Sightseeing places are: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swyambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Evening: Transfer back to hotel and briefing about the trip. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 03 - Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla(2840m)and trek to Phakding(2610m).3 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla takes about 30 minutes. From Lukla we start the trekking almost flat and gently descent and ascent to Phakding.

Day 04 - Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m). 6-7 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar which takes about 6 to 7 hours. This day you trek and cross the river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo(2800m.) is the entrance to theSagarmatha National Park which was set-up in order to protect and preserve this fragile mountain environment. You then ascend quite steeply to Namche and along the way, if the weather is clear, catch a first glimpse of Mt Everest in the distance. You can also enjoy the view of Mt. Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Konde-Ri and Tawache peak.

Day 05 - Rest in Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Lodge.

Rest at Namche Bazar is for acclimatization and excursion around the places. For the acclimatization you walk up to Khunde Hospital which was set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or a one hour walk up to the Syangboche (3800m.) where Everest View Hotel is situated above Namche for the outstanding view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse,Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kusum Kangaru.

Day 06 - Trek to Thame(3739m). 4 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Thame takes about 4 hours. From Namche the route turns west and the trail is almost level as you head up the Bhote Koshi Valley, once a popular trading route into Tibet. Along the way you pass many prayer flags, mani walls and carved stones, all indicative of the Tibetan Buddhist culture of this area. After descending to the Bhote Kosi the trail climbs steeply to Thame.

Day 07 - Trek to Khumjung(3790m).4-5 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

Trek from Thame to Khumjung takes about 5 hours. You retrace your route down the Bhote Kosi Valley towards Namche and branch off to follow a quiet trail to Khumjung. It is a picturesque village which also has its own Gompa at the top end of town. Here you can have excellent views of Thamserku, Kantega and Ama Dablam.

Day 08 - Trek to Tengboche(3867).5-6 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

From Khumjung to Tengboche takes about 5 to 6 hours. We follow the main Everest trail and will get our first really good views of the great peaks of the Khumbu: Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. Passing by several villages and numerous tea shops, we will cross the Dudh Koshi River and make a steep climb to Tengboche , home of an impressive monastery. We have plenty of time to look around Tengboche and in a relaxing lodge.

Day 09 - Trek to Namche Bazaar(3440m).4-5 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

Trek back from Tyangboche to Namche Bazaar (3440m.) takes about 4 hours. From Tyangboche, the trail descends steeply and slightly towards Phunki Tenga (3250m.) crossing the Dudh Koshi. Passing by several villages and numerous teashops, the trail ascends steeply to Sanasa where local Sherpa people sell the Tibetan goods. The way from Sanasa to Namche has small ups and downs with view of forests, scenery and mountains.

Day 10 - Trek down to Lukla(2840m).4-5 hours. Overnight at Lodge.

Trek from Namche to Lukla is final trekking follows the Dudh Kosi river. This last evening in the mountains is the ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the sherpa guides and porters, where we can sample some chhang, try Sherpa dancing and look back on a memorable trekking experience.

Day 11 - Fly to Kathmandu.

Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu. You take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to the Hotel. Rest of the day is free.

Day 12 - Free day for preparing Bhutan trek.

This day we take whole day free for next day Bhutan tour preparation. Evening: Our tour guide will brief the tour at the Hotel.

Day 13 - Fly to Paro. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast: transfer to the International airport. Flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular of all mountain flights. One can see Mt. Everest, Kanchen Junga, Makalu and other peaks in Bhutan such as Chomolhari, Jichu Drakey and Tsrim Gang. Our representative will receive you and transfer to the hotel. Paro is at altitude of 2250meters. Afternoon: Visit National Museum (Ta-Dzong).

Day 14 - Full day sightseeing program in Paro. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast: Drive to Drukgyal Dzong (a ruined fortress - 14 km away from the Paro Town). Although now in ruins, this Dzong is of historical importance. It was here that the Bhutanese finally defeated the Tibetans and drove them back. On a clear day, one can see Mt. Chomolhari(Mountain of Goddess). On the way back, you visit a typical Bhutanese farmhouse. After lunch, at the hotel, take a leisurely walk to stretch your legs in preparation for the excursion to Taktsang viewpoint.

Day 15 - Excursion to Taktsang monastery (Tiger's den). Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast: Hike to Taktsang, the Tiger's den takes about 4 hours. This magical monastery clings to a vertical granite cliff 3000 ft. above the valley floor. Legend says that Guru Padmasambhava flew here on the back of a tigress to meditate in the cave. The tigress was actually his favorite consort, Yeshe Tsogyel, whom he transformed to a flying tigress for the purpose of this journey.

Day 16 - Trek to Jele Dzong(3450m)3-4 hours. Overnight at Camp.

The trail starts above the Ta Dzong (Museum). Today is a 3/4 hours trek. Start gradually up hill, through mixed temperate forests and occasional farmhouses. By lunch time the trails goes through thick coniferous belt. Look out for wild animals & birds. By evening you reach the Jelela Pass 2600m from here, which the campsite is just hundred meters downhill.

Day 17 - Trek to Jangchuk Lhakha(3780m) 4- 5 hours. Overnight at Camp.

Afterbreakfast: Start trek to Jangchuk Lhakha camp and it takes about 4- 5 hours trek to reach at campsite. The trails starts 200 meters uphill to Jeli Dzong, which served as the rest house during the 2nd King ‘s time and now a monistic institute. The trail is mostly up and down with good views of Paro valley on your left side as you walk on the ridges.

Day 18 - Trek to Jimi Langtso(4040m)6-7 hours. Overnight at Camp.

The trail follows the ridge and on a clear day the view of the mountains and valley are beautiful. The campsite is close to the Jimi angtso Lake. These lakes are known for their giant sized trout.

Day 19 - Trek to Simkota(3485m)5-6 hours. Overnight at Camp.

The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and Janetso Lake. You may come across some yak herder’s camps where you will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of a nomad’s life. The campsite is close to Simkota Lake.

Day 20 - Trek to Phajodhing(2880m)4-5hours. Overnight at Camp.

The trek begins with a gradual climb. If the weather permits, you will have a spectacular view of Mount Gangkar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountain ranges from Dochula pass. From this pass, the trek takes you down hill to Phajodhing.

Day 21 - Trek to Thimpu(2440m)3hours. Overnight at Hotel.

The trek to Thimphu is all the way down hill through a forested area of mostly blue pine. The walk, at a leisurely pace, takes about three hours. Trek back to the hotel and rest. Evening: free time to visit the town.

Day 22 - Full day sightseeing program in Thimpu. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast: Visit Tashichho Dzong, the main secretariat building where the office of the government ministries, the office of the King, Throne Room, the office and living quarters of the monk body and its Chief Abbot are housed. Visit handicrafts emporium, painting and woodcraft schools, Memorial Chorten (a huge stupa), National Library, Simtokha Dzong (6Km from Thimphu) and the oldest Dzong in Bhutan, built in 1629 AD. Evening transfer back to the Hotel.

Day 23 - Drive to Wangdue via Punakha and back to Thimpu.

Today we take a day trip to Punakha and Wangdue Valley. Punakha is the former capital of Bhutan (77Km) from Thimphu and Wangdue is 16 km away from Punakha. The Punakha Dzong houses the winter residence of the monastic body and the Chief Abbot. The drive takes about 3 hours one way. Evening: Drive back to Thimphu and transfer to the Hotel.

Day 24 - Fly back to Kathmandu or onward to Delhi/Calcutta/Bankok.
